Can you feel it?
Summer is drifting away before our eyes here in the Northern Hemisphere. And it’s been quite the season! Here at the Spinning Pen, we’ve been traveling the globe, indulging in iced coffee, soaking up the sun, writing stories, and of course, READING ALL THE BOOKS!
If you’ve been hanging out with us for long, you’ll remember that we launched the first SP Summer Reading Challenge, and now that it’s September, it’s time to wrap it up.
So many books, so little time…
We’re dying to know: what books did you read this summer? Did you find a new favorite? If you checked out any of our recommendations, we’d love to hear from you. And if you discovered a gem somewhere along the line, we want to know that, too! We are all about sharing stories with friends.
(Don’t worry, I didn’t forget about the prize!)
And a GIVEAWAY!
If you read at least two books this summer (between June 1 and today, September 11), you are eligible to enter our giveaway for MORE BOOKS! That’s right, the winner will receive a $15 USD gift card for Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or my personal indie favorite Powell’s Books (can be used online if you’re not in the Portland, Oregon area). Never fear, international friends! You can enter, too! And if you win, I’ll send you a book of your choice (valued up to $15 USD) through Book Depository, provided that they ship to your country of residence.
Just use the Rafflecopter link below to enter. You’ll get 2 bonus entries if you read a book from our list of recommendations. (Open until 9/17/17.)
EDIT: We have our winner! Congratulations, Dawn S.! Thanks to everyone for participating. We’ll be back soon with more opportunities to read awesome books and win prizes.

I don’t know if I can pick a favorite. I read so many good ones. History Is All You Left Me, Geekerella, Warcross, and so many more.

Thanks for the giveaway! My favorite book read was probably THE OCEAN AT THE END OF THE LANE by Neil Gaiman. It was my first Gaiman book and it was so hauntingly beautiful and an example of what to strive for as a writer.

OOOh, yes. Those are both on our TBR list. One summer is just not long enough to get through them all!

Yay for summer reading! Wish I could have done more, but I’m glad I got some fun reading done in the midst of homework. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was my favorite – finally catching up with the rest of the world! 🙂

This was a great challenge! My favorite read this summer was Radiance by Catherynne Valente. Her books always blow me away with their imagination and lyrical prose, but the “mixed media” format of Radiance, as well as its non-linear plot line, was so different than anything I’ve ever read (and more complicated than most thoughts I’ve ever had; Valente’s genius for storytelling is astounding!). Definitely an author to add to your TBR pile!

Wow. So hard. Before Beauty by Brittany Fichter was a great read. So beautiful, I devoured it in nearly one sitting.

I really enjoyed “The Button Girl” by Sally Apokedak. Author did a great job creating a completely unique world, full of strong characters, truly good folk, and truly bad ones! Great ‘message’ w/o beating people over the head with it. Highly recommended.

I think my faves were Lord of Shadows (interesting characters), and the Finnishing School series by Gail Carriger (great humor).
